3/30/10,

Today, I've posted all survey qns on facebook and done some research, some of which may be of some help to marcus who is researching on evacuation plans. Research is as follows:

Hurricanes
Description
Tropical cyclones can produce extremely powerful winds and torrential rain, as well as high waves and damaging storm surge as well as spawning tornadoes. They develop over large areas of water, gathering heat and energy through contact with warm water and loses its strength as it moves over land. Although their effects may be deadly, such “disasters” also help relieve drought conditions.

The eye
A powerful cyclone will harbor an area of sinking air at the centre of circulation. If this area is strong enough, an “eye” will be developed. Surprisingly, weather in the eye is normally calm and free of clouds, though the sea may be extremely violent.

Evacuation/safety plans
If news report that a hurricane is approaching, this are some steps you can take. Lock all windows and bring in all outdoor equipment that can be blown away. Make sure you have a radio with you so you can listen to storm advisories. In most places, banks and ATMs are usually closed so have some cash in handy. If your house isn’t on a higher ground, go to a shelter. Lastly, DO not drink tap water until officials say its safe to do so.

3/9/10,

Facts- What I know
-Post/upload weekly reflections here.
-Think about the topic we are doing.
-Do research on the topic.

Ideas- What I think
-Talk everything through with my team
-Make decisions quickly
-Be responsible for your own work

Learning issues- What I want to find out
More about my team members
More about what we can do
More about the project
More about how well my team can draw

Action Plan- What I can do
Start researching on Global warming
Ask my team members about what they can do to contribute
Make sure everyone gets a chance to speak and not argue

What is our topic?
World Weather Disasters

What do I already know about the topic?
Types of disasters such as tsunamis, hurricanes blizzards, etc. Also magnitude of damage of an earthquake.

What are the questions I want to ask about the topic?
How should we produce the product?
What will be the product?
Where will it be kept and who will provide the resources?

What are the subjects/skills I can make use of?
Subjects such as geography that we learnt and history to find out about past weather disasters.

Where can I go to find information for our project?
Internet. Information books from the library

What do I want to prepare and tell others about our project?
About the causes of natural disasters and how to prevent them, with recent cases such as the Haiti earthquake.

Some questions that are going around my head.
-If I want to find out more about the natural disasters, any other sources that I can get information from other than those I can find from Google.
-What will our final product be like?

3 things I learned
-Assign work tasks.
-Focus on the current topic.
-El Nino, La Nina (weather effects of global warming)

Ideas I agree with
-Everyone should research on different topics for example, 1 member research on tsunamis while another do hurricanes.
-Everyone should post their findings and work done on the blog.
-Everyone will contribute towards the making of the research and survey questions.

This week, we made much more progress than the last few weeks as the team was much more on task. We assigned the jobs to the members and we also came up with an aim for our research. In addition, we also did some research on evacuation procedures.

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

What have we done so far?
We have assigned the jobs and done bit of research on the research areas and topics

What do we want to do next?
Start compiling required information and resources. Also, complete the assigned tasks and come up with a product and an aim.

What have we learnt?
I have learnt that we should take responsibility for our work and also we must all work together.

This week, we started editing the survey after completing some questions. We need to find out what kind of information and questions we will be asking so we need to discuss it. Also, I learnt that it is easier to tally surveys in options instead of sentences.

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

This week, we were supposed to complete our unfinished work like the survey, which has to be edited as it was unsuitable, and research more on weather topics like hurricanes and other disasters

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

This week, we discussed on how to improve on others survey. We read up the posts of the other group and got ideas for our own survey. We also did not research on anything yet so I hope to complete it soon.

This is the link to our survey. Our Survey

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

I did not do anything much this week except read up on the posts by other members. No research was done. I hope to be able to compile all the research on natural disasters and the results of the surveys by the end of the march holidays.

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

This week, we were supposed to edit the survey which was incomplete as you mentioned that the questions were unsuitable. Yan Hern should have already posted up the edited survey.

3/5/10,

This week, we did not do anything much other than edit and save part of the survey on google docs. We call our project 'ELEVAC' in order to produce a more detailed and more efficient evacuation system for all kinds of disasters. This evacuation system will follow a standard operating procedure for the different scenarios.

3/3/10,

Some questions that are going around my head.
-If I want to find out more about hurricane
-What will our final product be like?
i think we will build something about it
3 things I learned
A tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a large low-pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and heavy rain. Tropical cyclones feed on heat released when moist air rises, resulting in condensation of water vaporcontained in the moist air. They are fueled by a different heat mechanism than other cyclonic windstorms such as nor'easters,European windstorms, and polar lows, leading to their classification as "warm core" storm systems. Tropical cyclones originate in the doldrums near the equator, about 10° away from it.
Ideas I agree with

-Everyone should post up what they found out on the blog.

Facts- What i know
Submit weekly reflections here.
Think about the topic we are doing.
Do research on the topic.
Get a group file

Ideas- What I think
Talk everything through with my team
Make decisions quickly
Don't be tardy or dillydally, or waster time arguing
The design of the group file cover should fit us

i think i can create something to show about weather diaster

Learning issues- What I want to find out
More about my team members
More about what we can do
More about the project
More about how well my team can draw

what can we build?

Action Plan- What I can do
Start researching on Global warming
Ask my team members about themselves
Make sure everyone gets a chance to speak and not argue
Talk to my team members individually
